I've always believed there was more to the story of Humpty Dumpty...and why "...all the king's men, couldn't put Humpty together again."

I imagine it was a love not unlike Romeo's and Juliet's Why was an egg sitting on a wall in the first place? What would cause an otherwise rationally thinking egg of delicate stature to put himself in such a precarious situation?

I think it was a cover up. The King didn't want to be held responsible for keeping the lovers apart and sloughed it off like Humpty was just some stupid thrill seeker. "There he goes, up on the wall again..."
